About Us

About West Valley Humane Society

Welcome to West Valley Humane Society, located in Caldwell, Idaho. Our mission is to make a difference in the lives of animals and our community. We’re dedicated to providing safe and secure temporary housing, medical care, food, and nutritional support, as well as enrichment, exercise, and behavioral modification for strayed, lost, and homeless pets.

Our History

West Valley Humane Society’s journey began in 2011 when it was established after the privatization of the Canyon County Animal Shelter. This transformation led to the birth of a charitable nonprofit entity focused on animal welfare. Since then, we’ve been tirelessly serving thousands of animals in Canyon County and surrounding areas each year.

A Holistic Approach

Our approach to animal welfare encompasses a wide range of services, including safe and secure housing, medical care, food, and behavioral support. We offer low-cost preventative care for our community through vaccine clinics, microchip clinics, spay/neuter services, and targeted humane education.

Inclusivity and Collaboration

West Valley Humane Society is an open admission shelter for canines in Canyon County and limited admission for other species. We also collaborate with other counties and regions on a limited intake basis, transferring animals from overcrowded areas to offer them a better future.

Our Team and Supporters

At WVHS, our success is a result of the dedication and hard work of our staff, which averages 40-45 employees. We also depend on the commitment of our passionate volunteers and foster parents. They play a crucial role in ensuring the well-being of the animals in our care.

A Wide Scope of Service

Since our inception in 2011, we’ve cared for tens of thousands of domestic animals, ranging from dogs and cats to chickens and pigs. We’ve made a lasting impact on the lives of these animals, advocating for responsible pet ownership and animal welfare.

"A Pet is a Lifetime Commitment"

At WVHS, we firmly believe that a pet is a lifelong commitment. Our philosophy guides our work, emphasizing the importance of lifelong care and responsibility for the animals we serve.

Our Mission and Vision

Our mission is to reunite animals with their families and pave the way for the next generation through public outreach, promoting the human-animal bond, community engagement, and humane education. We envision becoming a model of excellence in advancing animal welfare and encouraging responsible pet ownership.
