Owner Surrender

Surrendering Your Pet: Exploring Options

At West Valley Humane Society, we understand that life can present unexpected challenges, and sometimes, these challenges affect the lives of our beloved animal companions. As an animal shelter serving Canyon County, Idaho, our mission is to provide compassionate care for homeless animals, regardless of how they come to us.

We recognize that surrendering a pet can be a difficult decision. To ensure the well-being of all animals in our care, animals surrendered to the shelter undergo medical and behavioral evaluations to assess their eligibility for adoption. We require that all surrendered pets are spayed/neutered and vaccinated to promote their health and safety.

Our Commitment to You: The Adopt From Home Program

If you find yourself in a situation where you need to surrender your pet, we encourage you to consider our alternative option: the “Adopt From Home Program.” This program allows you to find a loving home for your pet without bringing them to the shelter. It’s a less stressful transition for both you and your pet.

How the Program Works:

    1. Evaluation: Your pet will be evaluated to ensure they are suitable for the program.
    2. Documentation: If you have any medical records for your pet, such as spay/neuter or vaccination records, please bring them or upload them to the Adopt From Home Application Form.
    3. Fostering: Your pet can stay with you as a foster during the adoption process. They’ll enjoy the comfort of a home environment while waiting for their new family.
    4. Vetting and Promotion: For pets that need medical care or spaying/neutering, we’ll provide the necessary treatments. Your pet’s profile will be created and featured on our website to find them a loving home.

Our Goal: Keeping Pets and Families Together

At West Valley Humane Society, we strive to work with you and explore solutions to help your pet stay in your home whenever possible. Our ability to accept owner surrenders is evaluated on a week-to-week basis, considering factors such as available space and funding.
